The housing stock reflects Hampstead's long and distinguished past, with many fine Georgian buildings from the days when Hampstead was a village on the fringe of London, which it remained until the mid-19th century.
Properties include many tall terraced houses plus smaller cottages. There are also some double-fronted Victorian houses - five, six or even seven bedroom houses are relatively common here compared to other parts of London.
Later housing includes some beautiful Edwardian villas, as well as the Arts & Craft look of much of Hampstead Garden Suburb.
From a conversion or extension point of view, strict planning regulations can mean there's limited scope, especially with those properties tucked away in narrow winding lanes. However, if you have an existing basement, there may well be scope for a conversion - it depends on the area and the scope of the project.
In West Hampstead there's more scope, with a real mix of properties. There are many apartment blocks, together with stucco-fronted houses, detached, semi-detached and various modern developments. If you own a house here, then basement conversion or even construction can be a very realistic proposition.
Our work included a complete interior strip out, new mechanical and electrical installations, new hardwood flooring throughout, bespoke wardrobes, new doors, new walls and ceiling finishes, two bathrooms and kitchen. For more info on this project, please contact us.
